more than sustainable
Throughout my time in the fields and in grocery stores, I often thought of and saw the word sustainable frequently. “Sustainably Harvested, Sustainably Raised” sustainably this that and the other. I often thought to myself about how easy it is to receive something in poor condition and to sustain that condition. You get grandpas old tractor, all you’re really going to do is sustain it to keep it running while putting the most minimal amount of resources into it. So what does it continue to do over its lifetime, Break down. You see what if you stripped the entire thing down to bolts and nuts, replaced and repaired every piece, repainted it, the whole gambit? You would essentially have a brand new tractor and that is the way that I think about soil health and agriculture in general. I don’t want to sustain unhealthy soil and animals by being reactionary to our problems. I want to remove them completely. That is why we will always focus on soil regeneration instead of animal performance. Now that doesnt mean that our animals are not performing well ie healthy, gaining weight, and happy. it means that we value building diverse pastures and soil over capitalizing on our resources and overgrazing leaving no life in our soil just to make a few extra dollars. This is where I believe we stand out. With cattle we move them twice daily to new forages to promote growth in not only the cattle but in our pastures root systems, manure distribution, and organic matter percentages in soil so that naturally we do not have to utilize harmful lifetime chemicals for growth or weed control or synthetic treatments for our animals to keep them healthy. Our chickens are moved just the same, fertilizing the grass and even bare ground that we move them on so land owners can naturally make their fields fertile to plant grass that will ultimately pull carbon out of the atmosphere. We see agriculture in a much different lens than the traditional farmer but we respect them nonetheless. Our Mission is a country that helps small farmers by supporting their business which creates a healthier community and less reliance on the current conglomerate food system that has failed so many people by leading them to chronic illness and outbreaks of viruses that are not even remotely related to the food products they were found on. Our Mission is to be transparent and that is exactly what we will be with our customers.
We thank you so much for your support!
